The SEC's fine.... the refs have made it seem like it's only two good teams.... and yet one of those two teams continues to complain about the refs and blame close games on the refs... weird how that works.

Is a 10 point win over Tennessee on your home field better than a UCLA win in Knoxville? Is a 2 point win over Tennessee on your home field better than a UCLA win in Knoxville? Was Ole Miss' win over Memphis impressive? Ugly, ugly, ugly!! Was LSU's win over La Tech impressive? How about beating Miss State by a point in Starkville? All teams have ugly wins this year. And then those who play no one at all out of conference like the Gators don't really risk much. We rest, Suh! To be fair, NO ONE knew FSU would be this pathetic. They were ranked preseason and picked to contend for the Almost Competitive Conference title. Our OOC sucked, nonetheless, but there should have been one quality opponent.

UF,
Not talking about scheduling crap. Only talking about playing crap. No fault of Florida that FSU sucks. That is not the point of this discussion.
If we talk about scheduling, the mere fact that Florida plays FSU annually alone is enough to give them a pass. But some of our other bretheren SEC teams don't schedule crap. Just like some PAC 10 teams don't. That being said, as a whole, the PAC 10 OOC is light years better than the SEC's.

NVA, not accurate at all. Big 12 has consistently been the worst schedulers of OOC teams. And it ain't that close either. Big Ten used to be pretty good....but it has really dropped over past 5 or so years. And of course the ACC scheduling looks pretty good. All those SEC teams definitely help out. The SEC on the other hand is severely hamstrung playing all those basketball schools.

No brad, UCLA gets more credit because they play one more conference game, SD State, Tennessee and K State and the Vols played UCLA and Western Kentucky, Ohio and Memphis. That is why they get more credit.

It is extremely difficult to win IC every week. Comparing Bama/TN to UCLA /TN removes any doubt. Also, understood that getting boatraced by "good" teams proves alot. (Note to self: in 2008 LSU had 2 really good loses at UF and vs UGA)

BCS #1 and #2 are SEC teams. Tennessee almost beat BCS#2 and BCS #1 almost lost to Arkansas. Another SEC team is in the BCS top 10. If the SEC is "down", I would hate to see an "UP" year. I suppose it would be mathematically possible to hold the top three BCS spots. ;D

No, they lost on the road.
Are they equally as bad as LA Tech which has a worse record?
Agreed
Why do we count "in conference games for the PAC 10, but not for the SEC?
Seemed that LSU struggled there as well.
Ditto on the SEC question for USC. They won all their OOC games and two were on the road.
Again, all three losses are in conference. All three were to winning PAC 10 teams....

BD, I gonna throw this brick very slowly......If you read my post, Is was basically mocking the premise (example) of the horseshit posted previously in this thread to the tune of "LSU is down because La Tech played them close" and I knew, eventually, the Miss State game would be brought up. I knew the first Brick had missed and when the icing was put on top the cake in your comparison of Bama/UF vs TN and UCLA TN.

Yes, nva, I'm being a bit of a smart ass because I find it difficult to determine the right answer to your question. Yes, UF and Bama are doing OK...sometimes...LSU is too! AU, UT, USCe, ARK, Miss...Hell most of the SEC is hit and miss...Like Red said, We'll have to see how the bowl season pans out...To have 3 SEC teams in the top ten of the BCS, tells me the SEC is doing just fine.

I got that GD. But I never said that because in general score comparisons are not the best way to make any sort of judgement. LSU is clearly better than last year and using LA Tech is not valid when talking about how good or bad they might be. I only used it because others opt to use a single game score like Oregon State and UNLV.
I am not saying the PAC 10 is better than the SEC. I am saying the PAC 10 is very good. I believe the SEC is better this year than last, but we will know more after the bowl games

...and BD, all I was saying is, comparing the SEC to the other 5 BCS Conferences, the SEC is not "down" IMO. If they are down, then it's relative as I feel College football as a whole is down based on many examples given in this thread.
Down may not be the right word, parity may be more apropos.

I agree with GT and BD -
The crazy thing - even when the bowl season is over the arguements will go something like this - we went 5-1 in bowl games - we are the greatest -
From the other side you'll hear "SO WHAT" - your number 2 beat our number four - you couldn't beat our number two.
A conference discussion thread needs a theme song - I think I have it -
Now I need to find it......

Found it and it fits -
The only stat that really counts when it's all said and done under the current BCS system - 12-0 is better than 10-2.......
