ya think Ben Sheets is worth signing to a 1 year 4 million dollar contract? It depends on the team. Teams with more money to use on salary could take the risk of signing him because of his potential. For the Cardinals...I say yes. Duncan will get work with him, and possibly wrinkle out some of those mechanical issues Sheets has, and his potential is huge.

The Cardinals did not sign him. I was just wondering if he was healthy enough to still pitch

is 4 mill what his market is? I wouldn't think that he would get more than 2-2.5 with all of his problems. this is a big chance for someone to take and to put a 4 million price tag on it, scares me a little... but I would say the cards are the team that should do it, if anyone does.

Veteran Bench players can get $2M.

Looks like the A's took a chance on him for 10 million...wow.
Never thought he would get that much (more in the 6 range was my thought).

So much for money ball in Oakland. They wouldn't pay the likes of Hudson or Harden that type of dough.
Hell Cole Hamels won the WS MVP in 08 and he's only getting $6.65M next year.

You know I had the same feelings at first, but as I thought about it more, and more. I actually think this will turn out to be a decent move. My thoughts are on the deal are as follows: Beane still thinks that Sheets is a good pitcher, and he also knows that the A's aren't ready to make a run for a division title, yet. Even if he gets hurt this year it's not a bad thing and they just won't resign him, and they might get a Draft Pick for him. If he has a good season Beane will use him as trade bait around the trade deadline to try to get some good prospects. IMO it's similar to the Matt Holliday trade of last season. Beane only got him because he thought he could get some more then he gave up for Holliday later on.
