Any injuries after week 1 for your team?
LSU team injuries:
Out for the season:
Projected starter LB Jared Small
Out for the game:
Starting LT Cam Wire
Starting RT Austin Deculus
Starting DE Ali Gaye
DE Soni Fonua
WR Jontré Kirklin
Questionable for the game:
Starting RB John Emery
Starting S Jay Ward
We know that Small is injured, and Wire, Deculus and Ward were banged up in the UCLA game. Orgeron told Off the Bench that Ward has a “football injury, but nothing that will keep him out a long time.” That’s good to hear, as the Tigers were undoubtedly much more effective on defense before he exited in the first quarter. Of course, some of that can be attributed to UCLA making offensive adjustments as the game went on.
As for the other players listed, their status is unclear. Reports before the UCLA game indicated that Emery, Fonua and Kirklin were held out because of “academic issues,” but that is strange considering that school has only been in session one week.
When WWL’s Kristian Garic asked Orgeron about the status of Emery, Orgeron simply said, “He’s still unavailable.” Garic pressed further and asked, “Is it an injury?” Orgeron didn’t bite. Instead, he just repeated, “He’s unavailable.”
There are also several other players not listed above who we know have been nursing injuries. We’re talking about guys like cornerback Dwight McGlothern, safety Sage Ryan, wide receiver Malik Nabors and running back Armoni Goodwin. The only one of these that Orgeron mentioned was Goodwin, who he said he hopes to have back (presumably for this week).
Asked how he will manage the offensive line without both starting tackles, Orgeron said guys like Charles Turner, Anthony Bradford and Chasen Hines would have to step up and that they’ll have to play some young guys. He also noted that Hines is a little banged up. Xavier Hill and Garrett Dellinger saw playing time against UCLA and will be counted on as well.
