I know that this stuff has been discussed over the years, but it has reached a point of bullshit a long time ago. Yeah, technically I guess this fits the rule. But the offensive lineman clearly pushes the IU linebacker into the quarterback.
Ejection in this case is frankly criminal. Again, if they want to go to a yellow card system, fine. Everyone is for protecting defenseless players. But this is total nonsense.

That is total BULLSHIT. Heck, his helmet never even made contact with the QB's helmet. Maybe, and just MAYBE, his faceguard made contact with the QB's neck area, but as BD said, he was being pushed into the QB. IMO, it is even more bullshit that the "targeting" was called when the replay was supposed to be to determine if it was an incomplete pass. Just a terrible call, for sure.

But we do about targeting - I have been gripping about the targeting call for a long time. Ever since Devan White was tossed against a hit and missed the first half of the Bama game. Looking back it didn't matter in the outcome of the game, but he was the heart of the defense that year.
To avoid terrible calls - IMO they are going to have to make it like a personal foul. One is a warning and the second is ejection from the game. On the first offense - only make it a 15 yard penalty - and maybe sit out that series or sit out one play. But to eject a player on a bad call - not fair.

Plus IMO - they have gone overboard on protecting the QB.

IMO, that was more of a targeting (which I dont agree that it was), than the call against the Auburn player.

When i think of Targeting... i think of a WR going for a ball and a FS coming in full stem lowering his helmet spearing him with the crown or just knocking the WR out not even looking for the ball.....
Or a QB sliding and the Defender lowering his head and knocking him out.....
These days "Targeting" is just overly called.... its stupid. and the ejection really is over the line.

I mean... you wanna give them a 1st down? 15 yards? 30 yards? ok.... but its no worse than a player grabbing a FM and holding on... that seems more dangerous honestly.... Its a mistake that happens....
but the ejection is over the line.

I remember in 2007 TTU was playing OU at home i was at the game.... Harrell threw a ball to a slanting Eric Morris and the OU DB was going the opposite way.... tHe DB reached out, grabbed Morris' facemark, both in Full sprint, and it ripped Morris' head around so fast and forceful Emo's legs flew up and kept going as his held seemed to spin on his shoulders and his Helmet was ripped off, broke the chin strap... it was the most egregious FM i've ever seen..... thought his neck was broke for sure.... he was injured on the play... but it was just 15 yards and play on....

we don't complain about officiating on this site.... There is a substantial difference in discussing official calls, particularly when they do not affect a team that we may pull for vice some massive conspiracy to screw our program. It is also quite different than doing a play by play of calls made against our own team every week, multiple times a game. So far, I can't think of anyone who believes that every game they ever lost was a screw job. Well, come to think of it, I can think of one.

You know what never gets called -
When an offensive player with the ball grabs the face mask or crams his hand into the face of a defensive player (either by stiff arming or just out right grabbing it)
And sometimes an offensive player with the ball seemingly lowers his head into the helmet of a defensive player.
And you know what else I think is crappy - when an offensive player with the ball is heading towards the sideline and starts to slow down just before stepping out of bounds, and then we he sees the defensive player letting up, he turns up field and runs for more yards. If the defensive player hits him, the defensive player will get a late hit out of bounds.

Can you please show me the play by play of the last three TTU games on here? I think all i said was there was a couple TD’s taken off the boards in the SFA game....

The QB ran the ball toward the left sideline and he grabbed the defensive player's facemask when he was trying to stiff-arm the would be tackler. And the call was made.
