For those of you who have seen Band of Brothers, this is an interesting piece of history associated with Easy Company.

Clear case of CPT Sobel overplaying his hand. When a commander offers an individual a court martial, they must be convinced they can and should win the case. The way it is done now is you offer the individual an Article 15, non-judicial punishment or court martial. If both parties know that the crime was accurate, you are going to accept the far less severe Article 15. In this case, CPT Sobel knew that Winters was not guilty, but thought that his tough guy image and Winters' somewhat reserved behavior would cause the Lieutenant to cave. It was this case that eventually led COL Sink to realize his perception of Sobel was incorrect and changed the history of E Company.

Captain Sobel might have been killed by his own men if he would have continued to command Easy Company.

Captain Sobel might have been killed by his own men if he would have continued to command Easy Company. Maybe, but even Winters credited him with whipping E Company into combat shape. Inadvertently he brought his unit together by their focused dislike of himself.

Inadvertently he brought his unit together by their focused dislike of himself. No doubt he trained E Company well, but after training them - He wasn't a very capable combat officer. He couldn't even read a map and on one training mission - He lead E Company right into an enemy trap. He had some good qualities, but it seems more bad ones.
