I may have brought this up before, but here we go... When I was a kid, my dad and I collected baseball cards together. We went to card shows and as a result I have a pretty stellar collection of autographed baseballs. As with most childhood hobbies, I sort of grew out of collecting about the time the card market got so saturated. In the best times it was Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Stadium Club, Upper Deck. Then it became more companies and SOOO many sets and releases that cards I had were worth basically nothing. i did recently buy my first Beckett magazine since i was a kid, I guess they come out once a year now rather than monthly. My daughter now like collecting Pokemon cards. She does not play the game at all (you are supposed to use the cards and play some sort of game between other players where you battle, win, lose, etc.) she just likes opening packs and collecting and putting them in her binder. So my question is, is anyone on the board into colllecting at all? My thing is, I just dont know what to buy any more since there is so much crap out there. i stopped by a local card store last week in Jefferson and tried to get a little info. Apparently the little boxes of cards or "blasters" that you can pick up at Wally World or Target can actually have some pretty valuable cards in them. Problem is there are people that know that and if they see them at those stores just buy them all up and they are hard to come by. While in the store i noticed a few Kelee Ringo and Stetson Bennett cards, i was like woah they make cards for college players now? That's cool, my daughter would enjoy that. Every once in a while i wouldnt have a problem spending $25 on a box for me and my daughter to open together if i knew there could possibly be a return on the money like pulling an expensive card and selling it to get more boxes of packs to open. Just seeing if anyone has thoughts or can get me up to speed on what might be worth our time to buy. Thanks guys !

Bowman has a line called U for college players that looks awesome. i think you can pull autographed cards from those packs, concept art cards, etc.

I don't anymore, but I did earlier in life. I still have some baseball cards around, but I have given most of them away. I doubt I made anyone rich, but if I did then more power to them.

Saved $40 to buy Andre Dawsons rookie card at our local shop when i was a kid with my $3 a week allowance, took quite a while. Problem nowadays is the only way a card is worth a bunch is if it is graded and its a 9.0 or 9.5 or 10.0 grade. Another problem is now its about $20 to get a card shipped off and graded and sent back, not worth the gamble on any of the cards i have. I believe my most valuable card i have is the infamous Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. Rookie card #1. graded high, worth maybe close to $150, not graded maybe $40-50

I did some when I was younger as well. I remember when Bowman first came back in 1989, I had the complete set. Topps, Fleer, Upper Deck and Donruss were the big ones back then too, don't remember Stadium Club. Had some of the Starting Lineup figures too.

I have a bunch of baseball cards from the 70's and 80's. I sent Ghost a Pat Mahommes Sr. card that I had duplicates of.

I wish I had saved some of the comics from the 59's. Some of those are worth a few dollars today. Comics were 10 cents in those days.
I have a few old coins - one is a 1886 silver dollar. It is pretty good shape.
Never was into baseball cards.

Not to hijack this thread but,
My mother grew up in Brooklyn, and her father used to take her to see the Dodgers. When she was a young teen in 1950, she caught a HR ball hit by Duke Snider. After the game they went down trying to get him to sign it. It came back with the *entire* team's signatures on it. Among others Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson, Carl Furillo, Gil Hodges, and Roy Campanella. The ball was in a case during my childhood, until we moved to Israel in 1976, when, not knowing what else to do with it, she gave it away to some family friends.
I shudder to think what that ball is worth today.

I have a lot of autographed baseballs too. I have a friend that was on-field security for the Braves and he got me several. Also, being part of the team at my company that sponsors the Braves has produced a few. I also have a Jim Palmer baseball.

I've decided to try and get into the Bowman University series. the 2021 cards was before they had a deal with the NCAA so all the players on the cards have no logos on anything. 2022 they do, and the new "Inception" series looks awesome. Boxes of packs should be around $100-130, but if you pull a rare card or an auto you can sell and make money to buy more boxes, thats the plan however, i have a feeling this is like scratch offs, you spend a bunch, get nothing, then you hit something and youre like oh yeah lets get some MORE !!!!!! there is some other company called Panini or something that looks cool too

nevermind the inception box gives you a whopping total of 7 cards. Jeebus, when i was a kid you could buy a box up upper deck and there were like 20 packs with 10-15 cars in each pack. i think i may be too old for this shit

Just saw this thread so pardon my tardiness. I have collected cards since I was a kid. Still collecting today. I am about 95% focused on vintage (1975 and earlier). But I do pretty much put together a set every year of current cards. Buying those blaster boxes from Walmart or Target will give you a pile of doubles in no time.
I’m one of the few people that still builds sets of cards. I’m currently working on 1958 amd 59 sets. So if anyone has cards from those years laying around…let me know! I also do collect memorabilia but have to be very selective as I’ve run out of space to display. I have a wall of college mini helmets all autographed by Heisman Trophy winners. I have about 35 of those.

I have always wanted to keep them since my dad got most of them together, but when i hand them down to my son he will have no idea who these people are and they will become less and less relevant, sadly.

That’s the difficult thing, trying to find buyers. In 2021 I sold a bunch on eBay that was enough to finance a nice family trip to Disney. But I probably won’t go that route again. The tax laws changed, there are some crazy buyers, and eBay takes a pretty good chunk of the sale price depending on what the price is. A couple guys around here have had some luck finding people who are buying up complete collections.

The final value fees they charge, coupled with the fees that PayPal charge are ridiculous. Plus you open yourself up to a lot of scammers and PayPal disputes. Oh I got the ball but my buddy says it isnt a real signature, i want my money back blah blah blah. I honestly think i would only sell any of these in person so there would be no shipping involved. There is a JSA event in Chamblee (less than 2 hours from me) in November. if i had the time or money (which i probably have both) i would go there and get them all authenticated on site. It could only help with the value. All i have to prove they are real are the ticket stub from the event and that me and my dad went to all of them and personally watched them be signed.
