Died at 86. Greatest defensive 3d baseman I ever saw. Won 16 gold gloves at the Hot Corner. In New York, they named a candy bar after Reggie Jackson. In Baltimore, they named their kids Brooks. RIP sir, you were a pleasure to watch.

I watched a game between the Houston Colt 45's and the Cinn Reds playing in Colt 45 Stadium before Houston became the Astros and the Astrodome. I was sitting on the first base side in between first base and the outfield. Frank Robinson was playing for the Reds. He hit a line drive that headed our way and it hit a lady in side of the head. She was sitting a few rows in front of us and not paying attention to the game. It laid her out and she was carried out of the ballpark. As I didn't live in Houston at that time - still lived in Louisiana, never did find out how bad she was hurt.
But one could have hung clothes on that line drive. It was smacked.

RIP That is very cool. We too often only hear the negative stories about some of these athletes and a lot of times when you meet them you see how down to earth they really are. Was fortunate enough to have played golf at Aberdeen with Cal Ripken and once in Atlanta with Marquis Grissom. Awesome guys who do so much for their communities. Hell, I wanted to talk to Grissom about the 95 Braves and all he wanted to talk about was the Army. Sounds like that job must have been loads of fun.
