Ohio State legend Maurice Clarett called for Buckeyes coach Ryan Day to be fired after the team’s third straight loss against Michigan on Saturday.
Clarett’s first post on X came after Kyle McCord threw the game-sealing interception. Michigan won the game 30-24 in a hard-fought battle. The loss moved Day to 1-3 against their bitter rivals – something that seemed to be unacceptable to Buckeyes fans and alumni.
"Ryan Day…. Love you bro but gotta go. This is why you’re paid millions. Cant get paid 9’ms and lose 3 straight," the former star running back wrote on X.
Clarett kept going.
"I’m kind of happy I’m not too connected to the program in these moments. I don’t have to be fake cool with anyone. Everyone knows…. You can’t lose 3 in a row to Michigan. Everyone just isn’t going to say it because they still want access to the Woody Hayes center," he added.
"No one cares about beating the BS teams we schedule. We play those teams on purpose to have a good record to get to Michigan and into the playoffs. That’s part of the program. You don’t make 9 million and lose to your rival 3 times in a row.
"We live in a weird world. Part of coaching is praise and criticism. It comes with the space. That 9 million dollar salary comes with expectations and judgment (sic). We are all fans. Everyone isn’t and won’t be so patient."
Clarett continued that the school cannot "keep justifying losses" as the Michigan game essentially determines whether the Buckeyes will make the College Football Playoff.

My initial reaction was to pretty much dismiss these comments from Maurice Clarett. But I am reconsidering. Because he does have experience in screwing up the Ohio State football program. So maybe it’s a takes one to know one situation?

Next years increase to 12 teams pretty much makes this game a non-factor in making the playoffs. I know it must be painful to Buckeye fans to have the season boiled down to one game at the end of the season but next weeks SEC Championship is the same type if game. Next year we lose these types of games for the best teams.

Yes they do. Oregon-Washington loses most of its importance. Hell, Michigan-Iowa gives the Hawkeyes a chance to advance...is that seriously considered a good thing? Georgia and Bama should rest their players this week. Maybe Kirby and Nick can agree to have the Dawgs lose so both will be 12-1 and get better seeding. And the only way to make Michigan-Ohio State a critical game might be to make it the opening game of the season. All these reporters telling us that this is an awesome weekend of games and then in the very same sentence telling us they can't wait till next year. Lets go to 4 conferences and each one gets 3 teams in. Talk about NFL lite.

Honestly, how MC feels about Day right now is how many PSU fans feel about James Franklin right now. Winning 10 games but just pissing your pants against Mich and OSU is not setting well with fans.
Saw a stat this weekend where PSU is one of like 5 or 6 teams (forget exact number) of teams to be ranked on top 12 in CFP poll 5 or more times. They were the only teams not to make the CFP. UGA was the next lowest on the list at 3 times.
Maybe some of this changes next year with a twelve team playoff. Perhaps for some of these programs if they get in and win a game or two perhaps that will quell the fans.
Bottom line is most of these teams play 2-3 quality games all year so yes the margin for error in their fans minds is very slim.

While they certainly don't play every year, Smart lost his first 3 against Saban before getting a win. With his otherwise very good record, I would say a little more patience might be in order with Day. Pretty risky to replace a guy with a .889 win pct.

Lost his first 4. Natty, 2 SEC title games and the Covid game in Tuscaloosa. While I never remember hearing any loud complaining, I suspect that when they lost that 2021 SEC title to Bama, there was some internal discomfort. Kirbs might have been fortunate to get that rematch. But obviously nothing like Ohio State right now. As a matter of fact, not sure there have been any more patient fanbases than UGA over the years. 5 coaches in 60 years speaks volumes.
