And what exactly is the biggest detriment of an nfl lite model? Fraternity boys can’t sneak out in the middle of the night and grease the train tracks and affect the game. Don’t care who you are, that’s really funny!! 😂

And what exactly is the biggest detriment of an nfl lite model? Far too many to list. It was nice to be different, but too many people wanted a mirror image of the NFL and they are getting it...including a game that has way outpriced the normal fan. There are almost no fans of either team at a Super Bowl...but plenty of Hollywood types. We are very close to emulating that, except we now get to do it on Wednesday and Thursday nights since while it might be a mirror image, the emphasis is on the Lite.

I don’t think the things that made it different are going away. The bands, cheerleaders, etc. Now one thing that might start to shrink away like the NFL is the gap in talent disparity. I do think we’re headed to another level in D1. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I’d love to see more parity.

Bands...schools are already not taking bands on the road anymore. Even at FCS Level, Montana State raised money to help pay for Montana Band to go to Frisco. We even had our Pep band at the Tech game three weeks ago. They already have taken a lot of the band stuff out of here by blasting away what some people actually call music at record decibels that makes it next to impossible to talk to your neighbors....very much NFL, NBA and NHL like. You will start to see schools not sending their 400 piece bands to some of these playoff games because those cost bucks and even worse, seats for corporations.

Guys, things change. CFB has been a big business for more than 50 years now. The good ole days that everyone pines after had plenty of handshake agreements with fists full of cash. It’s incrementally gotten bigger and bigger with each passing decade. Larger TV deals, larger coaching salaries, and now players are openly compensated. The last time that this was about school pride was probably at least 70 years ago. And if you want to know the real reason that the mushroom effect has occurred? It’s because of fans like us. Fans have salivated for more and more games. We consume at rapid pace and large quantities. Hell we’re one of hundreds or thousands of internet sites that talk about it. Please don’t take this down the path of a political discussion, but you can’t on a poly board espouse the virtues of free market capitalism and then come to this board and say how sad it is to see CFB come to this point. Sorry guys it’s the height of hypocrisy because we as fans have created the market. Cat is out of the bag. No turning back. Only thing to happen will be for the athletes to get even more leverage. Good for them. The biggest issue for me is the transfer portal. Having players just up and leave a Tennessee to go to Georgia and play the next year. Or Georgia to Bama or whatever. It's ridiculous. As far as NIL, I don't mind players getting some type of monetary compensation. That being said, a scholarship, room and board, tutors, ect., is compensation, so I've never liked the insinuation that they weren't being compensated at all. There are a lot of people with 6 figure student loan debts out there. I think they could give a little monetary compensation in a better way than what they do, that doesn't destroy any hopes of smaller schools who are trying to build their program into a major player. Maybe each school could use up to 2 million to be evenly split among scholarship players. I don't know. As far as players being what fans go to see, I kind of disagree on that. Each players time is fleeting, so in CFB, fans are far more connected to their favorite school than players. Much more so than fans of NFL teams. In the NFL, players are the rock stars. In CFB, it’s more so the coach. When Bama hired Saban, the excitement was palpable. The spring game sold out, and merchandise went through the roof. Out of all of the great players we've had come through since, no one players arrival brought even a minute fraction of that excitement. If any player is worth a million a year at Bama, Saban is worth $250,000,000 a year. I used to watch the game religiously. I could hardly care less now days. One of the biggest reasons is the opting out, even if Bama hasn't had that problem. As an adult, it feels silly to care more about winning a game than the actual kids who play the game. That's kind of pathetic when you really think about it.

If it were NFL Lite, every team would have an opportunity based upon their play on the field as well. CFB is the only sport where a few people in a room know better than having actual results on a football field.

It is totally lost on me that everyone continues to beat the drum of, "Whatever stipulations you put on players, you should put on coaches as well." One is a professional, under contract and being paid a healthy salary, the other is a student, amateur, and 18 years old. Regardless of what is said, the If a corch is allowed do x,y,z... a player should be allowed to do the same, will never make sense to me. And out of curiosity what does age of athlete have to do with anything? Mortgages, children, responsibilities, paying for health insurance and such, etc? Just pointing out they're not the same just because they stand on the same field. If you're a student you're *supposed* to stay at the same school until you finish. No one is supposed to, or expected to, stay at the same job for a defined period of time.

The game has just changed so much, and IMO, not for the better. Totally agree. Unfortunately, it also describes the state of the country.
