Herbie was talking up his idea that the Rose Bowl should become the permanent site for the CFB final game. Danny Kannell has offered an opposing view of having it in the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar and Orange in a rotating basis. So far the committee has opted to moving it around to stadiums in different parts of the country, most of which are either indoors or in a place where good weather is reasonably certain.
Thoughts?

I like the rotating model they have been using. I understand the Rose Bowl has the most history, but is it really as nice as the Benz or So Fi? Mix it up between the historical sites and the newer venues.

Indy, LA and Houston have been. As far as I know, it is Atlanta and Miami for the next two. I love the Rose Bowl. It is truly an awesome setting. But I like the traditional game on New Years Day or close to it. That could be a quarter or semi final and then you could rotate the championship game in a few weeks later. That way it is spread around the country. Fans of teams going to the game will have already paid to fly to at least two other game prior to this and maybe as many as 4 others if they play in their conference championship game and then are not a top 4 seed in the playoffs. That is absolutely insane for costs. (Conf Title Game, Round of 16, Quarter Finals and then Semi Final before even going to the Final game). Even the NFL only plays 4 post season games at max and for the non wild card teams, 3.

I attended the LSU - UCLA game in the Rose Bowl Stadium about three years ago. I was awed by the majesty of the place, but not impressed with the comfort of the seats and access to the concession areas. Also the parking and traffic was bad as it is around the older stadiums in college football. Getting to and from the old college football stadiums is something that the on campus settings cannot overcome. That is part of the tradition of college football.
For the most part the newer stadiums have better parking, seating and concession areas serve the fans much better.
My age is a big factor IMO today. It is hard for an old person to get around in the old stadiums. Now days it is very hard for me to attend a game anywhere, much less to an older stadium - like Tiger Stadium and the Rose Bowl.
But IMO it would be a mistake to hold all the NC games in the Rose Bowl. Herbie's viewpoint of getting to and from the Stadium is a lot different than your or my viewpoint. Let him sit in one of the seats for the whole game and have to go back and forth to the concession stand for food or drink. No doubt he has a door to door ride from the Rose Bowl. Not so for you or I.
My Rose Bowl experience was walking about a mile across a golf course (parking) to get to and from the Rose Bowl.
But still, my Rose Bowl experience was great and I am glad I made the trip. But at my current age, I will not be going to another game in the Rose Bowl.
And Herbie doesn't have the financial burden of attending a game in the Rose Bowl that we do.
