LSU head football coach Brian Kelly fired defensive coordinator Matt House and multiple other defensive coaches on Wednesday morning. House, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, safeties coach Kerry Cooks and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey have all been terminated.
Kelly is looking forward to having a better defensive staff. I am looking forward to an improved Tiger defense next year - almost any defense that is fielded next year will be an improvement over this year's defense.
With an improved defense - LSU should be in the hunt for the NC playoffs next year. The 12 team format will make it a lot easier for a team to make the playoffs.
247Sports reports that Blake Baker has emerged as the leading candidate. Baker recently signed a new contract with Missouri that makes him one of the highest-paid assistants in the country, but he obviously has major connections to LSU and the state of Louisiana. Baker spent the 2021 season as LSU’s linebacker coach and has six years of experience as a defensive coordinator — two at Miami and four at Louisiana Tech.
Others:
Zach Arnett (Miss State) Tony Gibson (NC State) Jim Leonhard (Illinois) Jesse Minter (Michigan)
IMO, it will not take much at all to surpass this year's Tiger defense.
Geaux Tigers.

i look at LSU and its defense "problem" and i see Texas Tech in the early to mid 2000s......
People seem to forget how when the TTU offense was throwing up 5500 passing yards a year and #1 in scoring that the defense was then given a pass becuase the amount of plays it had to cover. when a team scores in an average of 3 mins.... you end up playing a lot of defense.
Your defense is on the field a lot more than a ball control offense. Teams ran more plays against TTU than any other game they played all year. Often teams were behind when the TTU game was rolling and passed more... some tried to run to keep the ball from TTU only to have then score in 90 seconds after they eventually punted.
i'm not sure that the DC for LSU was to blame as much as he was.

A defense needs stop the other team's offense a few times. LSU's defense could not do that early in the year. They missed tackles and look confused at times. I watched every play - apparently you didn't watch too many of them. LSU's defense sucked. I do agree with you that when a team's offense scores fast - the other team gets ball more in a game. But IMO, that was not sure the case for LSU this year. Too many missed tackles and players out of position to be effective.

I guess living through the 2013-2017 era were TtU had collectively the worst defense in the history college football the LSU d looks good.. but its to just when LSU scored fast.... its when they went fast and didn't score.... thats what use to kill Tech. Going 3 and out... or even 6 and out in 50 seconds.... it does come down to stopping team... but if you stop a tea 3 of5 possessions.. they get 14 points.... you stop a team 5 of 9 they got 35, yeah, you had more stops... but you gave up 28 more points... it compounds so quick. I remember KSU having some 11 min possessions.. it was crazy. you just keep the ball away and don't want to score quick.... but i'm sure lSU had better talent and should have stopped people..... but again, its the SEC and it was a good FSU/decent uf in the OOC.... they were going to give up yards and points with the offense.... now..... how many of Daniels yards and TD's would he NOT HAVE if they had a good D? Just like when the knock on harrell was that "well of course you got stats..... your D couldn't stop anyone and you had the ball all the time"...... it works both ways... did the poor D make Daniels? did Daniels make Poor d?
