Are the Lions going to regret opting to go for the 4th down and not taking the 3 score lead with a field goal? SF back in this game.

Twice Detroit opted for what turned out to be failed 4th down plays and both times SF made them pay. They have had a great season and I think they have a really good coach...but those were horrific decisions.

49ers prevail. I was pulling for the team that has never been to a Super Bowl. So we now get a Niner and Chiefs rematch.

As always, I agree with this line of thinking. I know analytics and all that plays into these decisions. But sometimes taking 3 isn’t bad. Sometimes kicking an XP is a good idea as opposed to going for 2. And a punt might not be fun, but it beats giving up field position.

I don't think the Lions will regret those decisions. That's something they've played with all year. They're going to regret the dropped passes, the ball off the face mask on the INT attempt and a rather costly fumble more than anything. It was a series of mistakes in that 2nd half. Hats off to the niners too, they adjusted when they most needed to.

However, they have noone to blame but themselves. Most of their wounds were self inflicted, it wasn’t all cochin' that cost them the game.

I thought at the end of the game rather than gambling on the onsides kick, they should have downed the ball at the one and then went all out for a safety. I think the odds would have been better if they had done that. Regardless, the Lions played a good game, it was a shame they had to lose.

Two good games though - AFC and NFC championship games.
49er's and Lions was a tale of two half's. Chiefs seemed to dominate the game, but score made it close.
