IMO Datsyuk is top 3 and possibly the best two way forward in the game

The Eastern conference has the most intriguing first round matchups in my opinion. The Pitt-Philly matchup ought to be a barn burner. Non-hockey fans should watch this one as it'll be high flying and big time hard hitting. The Caps-Rangers should also be alot of fun. I am hoping for a Stanley Cup final that includes the Caps from the East and the Blackhawks from the West, however I'd also settle for Pitt from the East and the Redwings from the West. Any combination of those four would be fantastic in my opinion

IMO Datsyuk is top 3 and possibly the best two way forward in the game who's he kick out? Crosby, Ovechkin, or Malkin? and I really like Datsyuk, but I don't think he's on those top 3's level right now.. Malkin might be the best of the bunch as he scores goals, assists, and plays GREAT two way hockey...

In my opinion he kicks out Crosby. Don't get me wrong, Crosby is solidly entrenched at the #4 spot and is an awesome player but the three Russians all play better defense than Crosby so they all have a leg up there. To me Ovechkin is the best of the bunch and is who I would start a team with if I had the "number one pick". Ovechkin is a very solid defender, a very underrated assist man (11th in the NHL with 54 assists), he is the best pure goal scorer of the bunch (#1 in the NHL and with 56 goals was 10 goals ahead of second place this year), and he ranks #2 in overall points (with 110 compared to Malkins 113 this year). Malkin is proving to be the best assist man of the bunch (#1 in the NHL), he is a very good defensive player (on par with Ovechkin IMO), he is a good goal scorer (#15 in the NHL) though not on par with Ovechkin, and of course he lead the entire NHL in total points. Crosby is very solid ranking #2 in assists, #3 in points and he ranks #17 in goals. However I have never thought his defense was on par with any of the three Russians and his +/- has always been a bit disappointing to me throughout his young career (in terms of comparing him with the other current great players in the game, let's make sure we are keeping perspective here). Datsyuk is the best defensive forward of the four of them but because he is on such a "team oriented" team that plays puck possession alot of people forget the guy ranks 5th in assists (his 65 assists were only 5 behind #2 Crosby), 23rd in goals (FYI his 32 goals were only 2 behind Malkin and 1 behind Crosby), and 4th in total points not far behind the other three (that's huge IMO considering he is such a good backchecking forward). He also actually has the best shootout scoring percentage in the entire NHL, so the guy is clutch, but lastly and most importantly the guy is #3 in +/- (at +34) in the entire NHL, none of the other three guys even crack the top 30, so to me that says something. So yeah, to me Crosby gets kicked down to fourth behind the Russians, he doesn't lead any category and his defense is somewhat suspect compared to the other three guys mentioned. Again keep perspetive here though I still think Crosby is amazing, and is solidly fourth without rival and you could not go wrong with any of the four guys mentioned.

Pretty good points... I can get on board with that... I do think Malkin and Ovechkin have distanced themselves from anyone else in the game... I was suspect on Ovechkin b/c I thought he was just a goal scorer, but he's proven to have the total package.. he's probably the best player in the world, but I wouldn't trade the duo of Sid and Geno for anybody...

Ovechkin reminds me of a young Stevie Yzerman. I always enjoy watching him play. Cant get playoff tix but they are always selling regular season tix. Its amazing how fairweather DC fans are.

Nor would I. They both appear to be pretty unselfish and appear to be pretty good leaders of their team despite their young age. I'd still take Alex the Great individually though

Another Pens/Flyers series should be great. Special props to the Rangers though, for winning a game that was meaningless to them on Sunday at Philly. The Pens greatly appreciate the Rangers getting them home ice.

Gotta win Game 1 at home... don't want to give Philly any momentum after they stumbled their way into the playoffs... and after we owned that ass last year in 5....

Two teams that dislike each other and played much closer than the standings would indicate. I think the Sharks win, but it will hardly be a cake walk.

Pens off to a great start. Loved to see the Flyers melt down and become thugs in the 3rd period. The Pens are in their heads.

Wow, can't believe the Caps gave away game one. The Great 8 was about the only guy who showed up for the Caps and Theodore was dreadful in net. Hopefully they get game 2 back and even the series before heading to NY.
The Pens played great hockey, smart hockey and jsut outclassed Philly in game one. This series isn't over yet though, I think the Pens will win it but it might go 6 or 7 games.
I love playoff hockey it is the best in sports IMO

I'm with ya Kaara... the Stanley Cup Playoffs far outclass the NBA Playoffs and the MLB Playoffs for excitement level throughout the entire playoffs...
The Pens looked great last night... Philly looks like they're just out there to take cheap shots as much as possible... and unless Biron starts to stop some shots, this series will be over sooner than the experts think... most had it going 7 games...

Agreed, Philly did not play good hockey and their mindset seemed more on hurting the Pens than playing hockey, not smart. However, Philly has some good players (Mike Richards etc...) and they are an experienced playoff club. I think the Pens are too much for them but they won't go down without a fight.

I tend to agree with you.. Didn't realize Philly had 6 guys score 25+ goals in the regular season (and Brierre wasn't one of them due to injuries) but watching that game last night... the Pens were on a completely different level (both physically and mentally)... of course, now Philly will probably win Game 2...

I hate Hockey so I will defer all my opinions on this matter to Goose. So remember, when Goose says something on this thread he is speaking for 2. Consider him pregnant or something.

Looks like the Jackets are done tonight, down 4-1. I'm now switching the channel over to Hogan's E true hollywood story.
