www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hNw_VW9Dlp19RvvaxvSLo5TZRwSQD98SQ0606PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly1 hour ago WASHINGTON (AP) — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House. PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside. "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals." During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood. "Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead. "Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker." Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses. Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't." Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter. Copyright © 2009 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.

I got a great idea...he can catch the fly in PETA trap and then we can all sit on the White House Lawn and blast away at it with shotguns, Kinda like Presidential Skeet Shooting.

I just showed the post to the missus. She looked at me with a bemused look on her face, shook her head and said, "Now I've finally seen it all." I couldn't have said it better myself.

I guess U do not need PETA around my house. I have 3 of the good old fashion blue bug zappers in the back yard. On the nights that nothing is on TV, I like to sit out there with some cold beers and watch the free show. You can even score them. Have had really slow nights where we placed bets on which one would get the next bug. Some times you get a bug big enough to be a flamer.

I didn't think a fly was an animal. What does this have to do with PETA? Some times you get a bug big enough to be a flamer. You have, flamboyantly, homosexual, bugs?

I am all for treating animals humanely, but give me a freaking break people. Flies are far from endangered and need no protection from us.

You know, PETA does serve a purpose in protecting animals from abuse, but, this is just plain f-ing stupid, and only makes them look like the joke organization that they have become. How do they expect people to take them seriously, when they pull shit like this?

Then I would assume that PETA people never walk anywhere, because of innocent bugs that aren't seen may be stepped on. And I would also assume that they don't drive anywhere for fear of what an evil windshield may do. I would also assume that they don't eat anything, because there are bugs even in vegetables.

How do they expect people to take them seriously, when they pull shit like this? I've talked to buddies about this very thing. It's a perfect case of an extremist group taking a worthy cause and hijacking it for their extremist purposes. Doesn't matter if it's PETA, ACLU, NAACP, NRA, unions or whoever. They don't take up the legitimate cause and stop at the boundaries of common sense. It leaves me completely unable to support them or their cause.
