It was a bad night for Missouri folks. Not a good day in Philly either--Phils lose, then Pens beat the Flyers.

Thursday night sucked for Missouri...and Brad...go Halos ;D I am OK with it... if we can take one from the Angels at home, I will be thoroughly happy. I am also happy with the way that Lester pitched... not great, but good enough that he could have won.

It was certainly a tough loss, but that is not the right thing to do/say. Doesn't seem like him especially after the way he acted wen the bullpen blew his 20th win of the season.

Where did he say that dpb? "That ball got lost in 50,000 white towels shaking in front of Matt's face," Wainwright said. "It doesn't really seem fair that an opposing team should be able to allow their fans to shake white towels when there's a white baseball flying through the air. How about Dodger Blue towels?"

Yanks just won in the 10th to go up 2-0. They got a hell of a homer call in the top of the inning to help them out. I can't believe that even with an ump down the left field line that the call was missed.

Homer call? That was sick. Horrible call. Pathetic. Disgraceful. Can't think of anything else to say about it....I mean absolute incompetence of the highest magnitude. Putrid.

I was sitting watching the game and when it was hit I said, 'I could have sworn that was fair'. They showed the replay enough times to confirm what I thought (as the ump was right there watching it). Yanks found a way to win though...

And of course tonight was the anniversary of the Jeffrey Mayer fiasco. Sure seems the Yanks never get the short end of calls. I mean, that was horrendous. No way that umpire can miss that call....ball was not even near the line and that is after it went off the glove.

No way that umpire can miss that call....ball was not even near the line and that is after it went off the glove. Yeah, that was a really bad call. That is why they have the extra umpire out there in the playoffs, so those calls are not missed. You would expect the regular third base umpire to make the proper call on that one... That would have been a double and then two straight hits would have scored him (preventing the force play that the Yankees got to stop the scoring). The Yankees did get out of the jam though and the Twins still had a chance to score. I guess the biggest difference is momentum. After they got out of that jam you had a feeling they were going to score and win it. Being down a run in the 11th is completely different from being tied...

I don't care that much who wins. I am an NL fan, so it really doesn't matter to me. But this is really something that should be reviewable, especially in the playoffs.
Tonight on MLB Network they mentioned it and brought up that they don't want to slow the game down. I just about choked. Slow the game down? A couple of reviews won't slow down these games, especially not the American League games that never end. They take forever anyway.
You never know what would have happened in the inning for the Twins. If Mauer hits that double, they might have gone on and had a bigger inning. I can fully understand missing a close one, but this was not remotely close. The smaller market teams already operate under a tremendous disadvantage in these games and then to have this happen. Sucks big time.

Tough to disagree with those statements BD.
I much prefer the strategy of the NL game but I am a complete seamhead...
The games in the AL have been lower scoring than in the years past making them more watchable.
The umpires do miss close calls, but I agree that one wasn't even really that close (for the situation and where the umpire was, etc.).

Angels just took a 2-1 lead over Boston in the 7th. I like the way that the Angels play. Steal bases, small ball, pressure on the defense. They also pitch well and play pretty good defense (minus Vlad when he is out there, his knees are shot). But I find myself rooting against them for two reasons: 1. Rally Monkey 2. Thundersticks

And I pull for them because of Soscia; can't stand the Red Sox and they are Yankee Killers.

And I pull for them because of Soscia; can't stand the Red Sox and they are Yankee Killers. Soscia is a good guy, and an outstanding manager. The umpire just made another mistake...can't lean into a breaking ball (you have to attempt to get out of the way). That is why it is so hard to pitch in the Bigs today. The inside corner is taken away b/c guys do that and any pitch remotely inside is a 'message' pitch and is cause for a warning.

Now the Angels take 4-1 lead. Sweet Caroline.
I agree BTB. We need to eliminate all the armor protection these guys are wearing. Then we need to eliminate that bogus DH and make pitchers bat.

Bob Gibson couldn't pitch in todays game. He would be suspended after the first inning of every game (for throwing inside). It has gotten silly. Now the inside corner is not even really an option for a pitcher, and that makes the outside part of the plate a less effective spot (as they can lean out). They need to make the game not as geared toward the offense (realize this is an old pitcher talking...). The armor should be outlawed, and the inside corner should be resotred to the pitcher. Looks like the Angels are starting to get over their curse with the Red Sox.

Oh I am tired of the DH as well. It is the reason that the bean ball wars are worse than before. The pitchers don't have to step in the box themselves...
No player should be allowed to be a 1/2 player.

Angels hold on and win 4-1 to go up 2-0 in the series over the Sox.
The Yanks get the benefit of a 'close' call and win the game in extras 4-3 to take a 2-0 lead over the Twins.
The Dodgers lead 2-0 after beating a couple of Cy's.
The Phils and Rocks are tied at 1-1 after a dominating performance by Lee and a struggle by Hamels. They head to the snow for Game 3.

I started a different thread about that god awful call in the Yankees game on the baseball thread. The call was bad enough, but like BTB said it was all about momentum at that point, and to take that away from the Twins on a fucking horseshit missed call is horrible.
I called my friend who is a HUGE Yankees fan and he was like, yeah that was bad, I said what the hell do you care, I guarantee you Tex comes up and hits a solo jack off to end it and get everyone in that stadium in a frenzy. I've watched enough baseball in my life to know when the Yankees are going to do something like that.
Instead of bases loaded with no outs, it would have been probably 4-3 Twins with 2 runners on and no outs, bad call, no excuse, especially in the playoffs with and ump IN THE OUTFIELD ON THE LINE.

Not to blame the umps for everything, but I also saw a check swing called my the HOME PLATE ump that was horseshit. Didn't even go down to third to check with that ump, just called it himself and missed that one too.

Checked swings and balls and strikes are always going to be judgemental. Nothing you can really do about that. But the call along the third base line was so flagarantly wrong. BUT, likely we heard all week long about another atrocious call, the losing team had more than enough opportunities to win the game.
