Or they said, what a lot of others won't. I find it very difficult to believe that many other coaches and ADs are thrilled with the additional recruiting threat and with the fact that some of the mid and lower tier teams just got dropped further down the pecking order. And no, not talking about the one school that doesn't give a damn, but those others that do, but can't quite get over the hump. Agree that the money counters are in pig heaven. Not so sure about those who have to compete. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Leaking it and having your AD ready to ambush at media days is a bad look and validated the secrecy around the discussions. This was inevitable. It’s going to put the SEC in the dominant position financially and had they not snapped up OU and UT another conference would have to level the playing field. I’m sure there are schools that don’t like it but surely they appreciate the move as necessary for the SEC to cement its status as the dominant football conference.

The bigger issue is "what else is being kept this quiet"?
Think about it.... they kept this quiet for "6 months" or longer.... "everyone voted yes" basically saying all 14 knew and still it was quiet.....
The NIL thing is changing CFB (sports) but i wonder if the SEC is actually 10 steps ahead of everyone and this is just the first of many moves that eventually ends the NCAA and 130 FBS setup. For all we know the NFL cold be talking to the SEC about a direct division or player source backing with billions of money to recruit all the best players....
who the fuck knows?

There is zero way that any coach and any fan base would find anything about this appealing. I absolutely agree that from a money perspective it is a coup. But I don't think Ole Miss fans could give a damn about how glorious their conference is, knowing that any progress they might have made over the past year is merely walking on a treadmill. If OU and Texas went somewhere else, it is more than dubious whether even the Big 10 would be a better conference. Equal...perhaps. Again, I could not agree with you more on the financial aspect. I can't believe any coach, even Nick Saban is truly happy about this. But they have no choice but to accept it.

What keeps the “SEC” from endorsing a player? Just a very obvious question.
Or what keeps the SEC from making a 3rd party it’s big sponsor that pits in millions a year to endorse say 200 starting athletes a year to wear its brand?

Off the RRS paysite.... the guy has been pretty good with sources....
“” This might get long, so bear with me. Just got done talking to a guy who covers OU sports and is pretty well-sourced. He wanted my thoughts on things but also provided me with lots of background info for this whole deal, which may indicate where things are headed.
First, this was in the works for about six months and literally 10 people at OU knew about it. Joe Castiglione’s kids didn’t even know about it. I’m baffled at how this was kept a secret for so long.
The intent was to announce this in January 2022 after this coming season. Texas and OU were allegedly going to try and help other Big 12 schools find a landing spot between now and then so the conference could dissolve. He seemed to think most Big 12 schools will be okay but that K-State might get left without a seat at the table. A&M might have screwed the pooch for K-State, but he said announcing early before the grant of rights expires helps the remaining Big 12 schools.
As has been discussed, this is the first step in creating a separate entity from the NCAA. The teams that used to make up the P5 will become the NCFA (National Collegiate Football Association) or something similar, with their own governing body and revenue/payout structure. Joe Castiglione is probably positioning himself to be a commissioner or similar of this newly formed entity.
This is where things get intriguing for Tech and others. As it stands now, there are essentially two Fox leagues (Big Ten and Pac-12) and two ESPN leagues (SEC and ACC). If the SEC is really going to try and poach Ohio State and Michigan among others, it will very likely doom Fox’s ability to generate anything close to competitive revenue with ESPN. As such, this guy seems to think pressure is growing on Fox by the minute to add content and make sure the Big Ten and Pac-12 stay intact rather than all their top teams just getting absorbed into the only conference that matters, which has a deal in place with ESPN.
Right now, the ESPN conferences have 31 teams (16 SEC, 14 ACC, plus ND). The Fox conferences have 26 (14 Big Ten plus the Pac-12) and of course the remnants of the Big 12 (for now). Oklahoma State has interest from both the Big Ten and the ACC. Not sure how much, but they could conceivably go any of three different directions.
Worst case scenario is OKST goes ACC (ESPN). Second worst case scenario is OKST goes to the Big Ten. Best case scenario for Fox is that OKST goes to the Pac-12. This keeps them away from ESPN and away from the Big Ten, where they’d be pretty far behind Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska in terms of brand. If they go Pac-12, it opens a brand new time zone and in a good year OKST could compete with the top three teams in the conference. They would probably enhance the competitive brand of the Pac-12 while probably not making too much of a difference in the Big Ten.
Fox is under pressure to add content so that it has as many or more teams to put on TV as ESPN has. This guy thinks Fox will open their wallets to make this happen. Think of it like Fox and CBS for the NFL
Hopefully that includes Texas Tech. I’m not sure what will happen, just sharing what was said to me from someone who has a ton of contacts. He thinks 64 or 65 teams will make up the new NCFA and that Tech and others from the Big 12 (besides possibly K-State) will be part of it.
Oh and one more thing; he didn’t seem to think academics and “politics” mattered as much during realignment this time around. Specifically, he doesn’t think the Pac-12’s “liberal” lean will be a problem for schools like Tech and OKST. He didn’t bring up if the private/religious deal would be an issue for BU and TCU, but it didn’t sound like it.
Anyway, just sharing what I’ve heard since I thought y’all would find it interesting. I’m not willing to stick my neck out and say any of it is for sure true and I can’t verify any of it. Just passing along.

WHy is that looking bad? Fail to understand how them not supporting is bad. If they had said they will not support the outcome or if they said they were leaving, I would agree. Lets face it...do we think Mizzou is crazy about this? Do you think Ed Orgeron is thrilled with it? I can't imagine Sam Pitman or Lane Kiffin is happy either. Kudos for A&M voicing something other than the party line. They KNOW Texas and what assholes they have been. Their entire history has been one of destruction. Ask Colorado. Ask Nebraska. Do I think they will get their way in the SEC? No because Florida, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Alabama are a powerful group that is not likely to take any shit from Austin. But no one knows the Longhorns better than the Aggies. No, I don't think this looks bad at all.

If not, they will be humbled real quick!

Keith Farner | 5 hours ago The potential move of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC has caused some lawmakers in Texas to file legislation to block such a move.
On Friday, more than 30 Texas lawmakers, some of who represent areas with Big XII schools, filed a bill to require legislative approval of conference realignment, CBS Austin reported. The bill is spearheaded by Rep. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock.
There’s another bill filed by Sen. Brian Birdwell and other legislators who graduated from any number of schools, or represent areas besides the University of Texas, throughout the state. In a Facebook post about SB 76, Birdwell wrote in part, “Such a move would negatively impact other Big 12 schools in our state like Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech. These schools and their surrounding communities heavily depend on the financial income that BIG 12 football provides. Without a significant player like Texas, along with the possible departure of OU, the Big 12 becomes a less favorable conference, effectively losing a substantial amount of viewership and attendance.”

But wait - The Texas lawmakers only meet every other year, usually from Jan to May. It is in a special session called by Abbott on July 8th. It can only go for 30 days. And the bill filed above is not on the agenda. So unless the Abbott allows that bill on the agenda - I don't see this bill going very far. IMO, it is all show. I would be surprised it any legislative action is taken on this matter.

Which sounds insane.... but figuring in the $30 million less the AAC pays I guess it works out. This will take a while, but it will take a while to try to leave. But the $$$ is way bigger than the last time around. Texas and OU can be kept right where they are. It’s possible.

Bruce Feldman @brucefeldmancfb · 11h OU and Texas have never had more leverage with the Big 12. I was told this Friday by a Big 12 AD: “If this is about redistribution of wealth, that’s an easy fix. When it comes to our TV inventory, (OU and Texas) probably make up 50 percent of our value.” Oklahoma and Texas conference realignment rumors: SEC expansion, Big Ten reaction and Big 12 fallout A potential bombshell dropped shortly after 3:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, when the Houston Chronicle reported that Oklahoma and Texas had reached out to the SEC about joining the conference. Eyeballs seems to be the only thing that matters, so I can't see most of the remaining teams finding a home in a good conference.

I was using Vandy as an example of not bringing the value of the top tier teams. But in reality, conferences need some weaker teams - to beef up the won and lost records. If all the teams were strong - the won and lost records would be poorer. Just saying.

Football is not everything... I mean, look at Kansas... supposedly being courted by the Big10.. for Basketball only.....
ISU doesn't play baseball... but are now a little relevant in football...
Texas Tech is good in lots of sports... Track champs, basketball, baseball, golf, etc. Football is still a draw, and Lubbock is one of the biggest college towns in the entire country. No pro sports... Much bigger TV market than TCU, Baylor, Houston, etc.. even though they are bigger populated areas.. people just care more here.. its "our team".
If the Big12 can get the Money right.... then UT and OU have no reason to leave. If the Big12 can add teams that UT/OU want then they will have it made. The new CFBPO is set for the ability to get in easier from here than the gauntlet of the SEC.
I wonder just how big of a Push he Big12 will make to STEAL back Nebraska... possibly others and or add in 2-4 teams?
