I know it's early, but I want to start this year's one as well. Like last year: Homer Predictions: 1. Brewers 162-0 2. Pirates 100-62 3. Reds 50-112 4. Astros 20-142. 5. Cardinals 19-143 6. Cubs 0-162 Realistic Predictions: 1. Cardinals 95-77 2. Cubs 82-80 3. Astros 80-82 4. Brewers 79-83 5. Reds 74-88 6. Pirates 65-97 I really hope the Brewers step it up this season, but the pitching is really going to struggle this year, and they won't have a stretch run like they did last season to start the year. If they can get a #2, or even heck a #3 I think they can finish #2 in the division, and with some luck challenge for the top. Doesn't matter though since the Yankees are winning the World Series again.

If the Cards can't resign Holliday I would say the NL Central is wide open

what is the offer on the table for Holliday... originally it was rumored to be 8 years, but I also heard that wasn't true. The Sox have an offer to him for 5 years 82.5 million... I think the Cards is higher than that.

I just heard on talk radio that the Cards said that they were willing to go to 6 or 7 years... I don't see any way that the Sox end up doing this. This offer, from what I have heard today was never pulled off the table, but it was put on the table prior to getting Lackey.

I have a bad feeling about my Reds this year. Hopefully they get off to a quick start and, play well. I see the Cards running away with there division and I see the Cubs choking as usual.

Define "...choke as usual" for me. I'm pretty sure the Cubs won the Central division two years in a row prior to last season. So, you're either stupid or don't know anything about baseball or both. Way to go!
As for predictions, you can shove 'em up your ass. Are you guys high? 77-85? Are you predicting all the same injuries as last year, too? If the Mets weren't running the league's biggest MASH unit, that honor would have fallen to the Cubs last year. Let's review Carrie Muskat's rundown of all the injuries to the Cubs last year... "Fifteen players went on the disabled list 18 times, adding up to 584 games missed. And when that list includes Aramis Ramirez (50 games), Carlos Zambrano (31 games), Aaron Miles (53 games), Reed Johnson (64 games), Alfonso Soriano (29 games), Geovany Soto (26 game), and Ted Lilly (24 games), it's hard to keep up in the division." ...and they still finished second. That means the Brewers suck, the Reds suck, the Pirates try to suck by trading away talent, and the Astros squander talent to suck.
As for acquiring Tejada being awesome...if by awesome you mean getting an overrated, overpaid, older-than-advertised, past-his-prime, no-good-without-steroids player than, yes, awesome! He certainly would be an upgrade from Khalil Greene, though.

if you continued to read through the thread, you would have read that he was just kidding... also, I think that you can imagine what he means by it, you know, with the stigma of the Cubs being chokers to the entire world, so I am not sure that calling him stupid is the way to go on this one.

Here's the NL Central as I see it...
Cardinals - the most formidable team in the Central Division with the addition of Matt Holliday and others this off season. There's still questions, though. Consider third base and David Freese. He had some trouble with the law this off season, but it doesn't seem like it will affect him on the field. However, he's only had 31 major league at-bats in 17 games. Their other third base option is Julio Lugo...no bat, and fading defensive skills. I'm not crazy about Skip Schumaker at second, either. Sure, he's gonna hit .300, but what are you going to get out of it? The guy's career high in homers is 8. That was in 2008. In his '09 campaign, he only hit 4. He also only had 35 RBI's and a .364 OBP. Generally, second basemen don't provide a lot of power, but this guys is only suited to bat either 2 (in order to bunt someone over), 8, or 9. Usually, playoff contenders or World Series winners are very strong up the middle (Check David Eckstein for exceptions to the rule.) Ludwick (if back to '08 form), Pujols, and Holliday pack a hell of a wallop. This is really the only team I'm worried about in this division.
Cubs - Thank God Milton Bradley is in Seattle. If he was still on the team 0-162 might be realistic. It's not that I think Milton can't play, it's that he's a dick and should only be an AL player. Adding Marlon Byrd is nice. It allows Kosuke to go back to right where he is better defensively. Again, strength up the middle. That being said, I'm not crazy about the middle of the infield for the Cubs. I like Theriot and Fontenot, but I think we could be better, there. Geovany Soto had quite a sophomore slump aside from his injuries. If he isn't better, we're in trouble. I miss you, Henry Blanco. Can Carlos Silva be what he once was? If not, losing Rich Harden, despite his injuries, hurts. Can Carlos Zambrano get over his brain farts to become a true front line starter? How's Ted Lilly doing? His health will be key to the Cubs' success in '10. There are a lot of questions, but it comes down to most of the team staying healthy. If that happens, I expect both the Cubs and the Cards to be close to winning the division and/or making the playoffs.
Brewers - Lots of bats and no pitching...should they spend on pitching, now, or develop some younger arms and pitch by committee to save money for re-signing players that hit homeruns and strike out a lot...and are overweight...and for the clubhouse spread for those obese players. I'm thinking a fourth place finish and relative obscurity for the team that hosts more Cubs fans during home games against the north siders than Beermaker fans.
Pirates - Give up. Bring out the tarp, now. As a matter of fact, put some tarps over most of the seats. You won't be filling them. You're the new Devil Rays. Even if you do have talent at the beginning of the season, it will be traded by the all-star break. Shoot your GM, get a new owner, and start over.
Reds - As long as you have throw-away manager Dusty Baker managing your team, you can expect your young arms to wither away into nothing (Check Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and eventually Edinson Volquez). Dusty's management philosophy, "Ride your young arms to the end of their once promising careers and depend heavily on the homerun. As a matter of fact, why actually manage at all???" Good luck. Maybe, Joey Votto will hit 100 homeruns this year and you'll finish above the Brewers and Astros. Don't count on it, though.
Astros - How can you have all those good players and never really compete? I swear, I look at your lineup sometimes and think, "Why can't they do it?" Lee, Tejada (gone, now), Berkman, that goofy looking hunchback kid that plays outfield, and more...and nothing to show for it. Shameful. I would like to tell you that you are going to finish third, but that's probably pushing it. Enjoy your fight with the Brewers and Reds for the third spot and to stay away from only being better than the Pirates.

Miz, Is there still talks about Tejada in STL. I am looking forward to this year. I am having my bachelor party in St. Louis and going to a Cardinals game against the Mets. I havent been to the new stadium yet, and then there is always East St. Louis afterwards. Cant wait to be back in the STL and GO CARDS. I like how they signed Penny. COuld be a very dangerous team in October if they make it

I would say they are the second best team in the NL behind the Phillies but not to far behind

That means the Brewers suck, the Reds suck, the Pirates try to suck by trading away talent, and the Astros squander talent to suck. Geo still struggled when he was playing, Ted Lilly wasn't getting run support when he was pitching, Soriano is gone for a couple to a few weeks in the year anyway, Aaron Miles wasn't hitting the ball to save his life. Reed Johnson was a decent filler and the Am-Ram injury was very unfortunate (he was tearing the cover off the ball). We have some players coming in with something they need to prove, and will Derrek Lee repeat the great season he had last year? Will Marlon Byrd be another former Ranger flop, or will he shine at Wrigley? Can Randy Wells repeat his performance from last year and how long will Lilly be gone this year? Look, I don't think the Cubs will be as bad as I posted, but there's still some definite question marks plus the Cards are still coming back strong from last year. Carpenter's health is always a concern, but they still are putting out a great team for 2010.

Even when Penny's been good, his control has been a major concern, and I don't know if even the Cardinals pitching coaches can prevent that from happening again.

Well I am counting on the Duncan to work his magic and for Penny to have a decent year as a #3 or 4 pitcher for the Cards.
HE doesnt need to be the ace for the team, and since they only are paying around 1M I think that is it a win win situation
