What BD is trying to say is...................If fucking Florida can find a new coach that comes in and does better with the talent on hand, then Georgia better do it, too, dadgummit!!

Fine, to demand that a first year coach better win the division is still a bit ridiculous. Again, did Richt? Yes we should expect better long term results than what we have seen the last 6-7 years. But to demand it happen in the first year is not fair. I understand you don't like GM, not that fond of him myself. But don't automatically throw whoever the next coach is under the bus and start revving the engine because of your dislike for him. Athens, why is it unfair to expect a new guy who inherits all this talent from an underachiever to improve by one game and win a very weak division? Why is that unfair? I am not asking to turn around UCF. I am asking for this new superman to improve over an underachiever with a lot of very talented players. Should be a snap. Really? Where has all that fine talent at QB been all year? I'm with Brad, done arguing.

So if the new guy is supposedly an upgrade, how can he possibly fail to match 9 regular season wins? I am all ears.

Dayum, I have never seen BD cuss on here. I would hate to be in your house right now. BD, I agree the new guy should be able to win with the talent already there, provided they stay. Did you see the remark by Floyd? Must say they handled this poorly all the way around, should have let CMR tell the team, not them finding out via internet stories. That is highly fucked up in and of itself. I would say he definitely bolts for the NFL now, and would not be surprised to see some or at least a few transfer.

As already mentioned, new system (offensive or defensive), possibly starting a freshman QB, the East (which was pretty bad this year) being better. Starting out the season with UNC instead of Louisiana Monroe.

Where did Florida finish in Muschamp's last year? Duh Lets see how this looks: In the last 4 years of Phil Fulmer, the Vols were 29-21 In the last 4 years of Mike Shula the Tide was 26-24 In the last 4 years of Gerry DeNardo LSU was 26-20 The last 4 years of Mark Richt the Dawgs are 39-13 with one game left That is why expectations should be much higher with our new Nick Saban.

Chubb, Michel and maybe a couple others if they don't jump ship. Should be a snap to maintain and not much of a challenge to be better.

ATHENS — Georgia’s decision to fire Mark Richt as its head football coach had nothing do with how the Bulldogs played at the end of the season. In fact, his dismissal had been in the works for weeks.
Richt, the Bulldogs’ coach for the last 15 seasons, was dismissed by Athletic Director Greg McGarity on Sunday morning. Members of the board of regents were informed around 9:15 a.m. and members of the UGA Athletic Association board of directors were notified a short time later. The university announced the decision via an emailed news release that was delivered at 12:37 p.m.
“Coach Richt and I met Sunday morning to discuss the status of our football program,” Georgia Athletics Director Greg McGarity said in the school’s statement. “And we mutually agreed that he would step down as head coach and would have the opportunity to accept other duties and responsibilities at UGA following the bowl game.”
The announcement came less than 24 hours after the Bulldogs played Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Georgia won the game 13-7. It was the Bulldogs’ fourth win in a row and they finished the season 9-3.
That represented the 11th time in Richt’s 15 seasons as coach that the Bulldogs won at least nine regular-season games. Richt (145-51) is the second-winningest coach in Georgia football history, after Vince Dooley, and the first in winning percentage (.738).
But “it was never about what happened in the Tech game,” said a person familiar with the inner workings. The decision to make a change actually had been made “weeks ago.”
Serious discussions commenced the week after Georgia lost to Florida 27-3 on Oct. 31, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution learned. The lopsided loss and the decisions Richt and his staff made in the days leading up to the critical SEC Eastern Division match up swayed the opinion of many state decision-makers and influential UGA alumni. They made their opinions known to McGarity and UGA President Jere Morehead.
The school’s statement said the two parties “mutually agreed” to part ways. But Richt had made it clear after Saturday’s game he intended to continue as Georgia’s head coach.
“I appreciate the opportunity of serving the University as well as considering any other options that may present themselves in the future,” Richt said in a statement.
Richt did not return calls seeking comment. He has accepted the opportunity to coach the Bulldogs in a bowl game. The destination and opponent won’t be determined until next Sunday. There will be a press conference on Monday, the school said.
Richt has stated repeatedly that he didn’t intend to pursue any other jobs, which has been confirmed by those around him. Richt has been offered the opportunity stay with the university in some capacity, although Richt’s statement did not address that possibility.
Richt will be owed $4.1 million from UGA, according to his latest agreement with the school. He has four years remaining on a deal he made in January that raised his salary $800,000 to $4.1 million. While he still has not signed that contract, McGarity said earlier this month the school would honor the payout terms of that agreement.
“I have asked Mark to remain engaged with the institution in a new leadership role, and I look forward to hopefully working closely with him as we advance our capital campaign at the University of Georgia,” UGA President Jere Morehead said. “I know all UGA alumni and supporters will look forward to celebrating the successful conclusion of his coaching career at UGA in a bowl game later this year.”
In the meantime, the search for Richt’s replacement is already ongoing. It is centered on two primary candidates: Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen.
Smart, a UGA football letterman (1995-98), is thought to be the No. 1 choice but could choose to remain at Alabama in hopes of one day succeeding Nick Saban as head coach there. Mullen has a close personal relationship with McGarity from when the two were at the University of Florida.
McGarity’s statement thanked Richt and his wife Katharyn for their 15 years of “remarkable service” to Georgia and the community.
“Mark has touched thousands of lives over the past 15 years – he has a huge heart and his positive influence has affected many people, young and old,” McGarity said. “We will never actually know how many people were positively impacted by a comforting phone call, a sympathetic or uplifting note, an autographed football or photo – he had the unique ability to shine a bright light on others when they needed it most.”

Yep, going to be Dan Mullen or Kirby Smart. How does that make my fellow Dawgs feel? Really worked hard for this one. Dan Mullen...surely this is an April Fools joke in November.

I must admit, I said it was time for a change, but I am really mixed right now. Do not want Kirby as the HC, then Pruitt will be gone, I see those two definitely butting heads. We shall see what happens in the next few days, I would want Chip Kelly way before Kirby.

Nobody handles PR like Greg McGarity. A Security Team to keep players from talking? This is Athens and not Tiblisi, isn't it? Seth Emmerson, AJC ATHENS — Jordan Jenkins is leaving Georgia at the same time as Mark Richt, as it turns out. That doesn’t make it easier for the senior linebacker to take. Jenkins made clear his feelings on Richt’s firing Sunday night as he left the Georgia athletic building, where Richt held a team meeting and discussed his departure. “It ain’t right. Ain’t no Georgia football without coach Richt,” Jenkins said. “Just the way he dealt with everybody up here. And the way it went down just don’t sit right. Just from what we’ve been hearing. We’re meeting with (athletics director Greg) McGarity tomorrow. But it’s just messed up.” Richt will coach in Georgia’s bowl game, which will mark the end of his 15-year tenure as head coach. The seniors, including Jenkins, will be going for their 40th victory. Richt could be seen through the glass doors of the Butts-Mehre building walking alone through the lobby and back to his office. He was wearing a black Georgia warm-up jacket and pants. After the meeting a security team brought in by UGA for the night prevented the media from talking to most players. They got between media members and players, and at one point told the media to move across the street, which the media refused as the area is public property.
Jenkins left the building with fellow outside linebackers, and was willing to talk to the media. He said Sunday night’s meeting included Richt, players, and most of the coaches and staff members.
“It just was jacked up. Not everybody on the team is sitting right with this,” Jenkins said. “But we’ll find out more stuff tomorrow.”
At that point a security member came up to Jenkins and ordered him to get in his car. Jenkins did get into his seat but kept talking.
“All I’ve gotta say is they lost a great man,” Jenkins said.
There’s also evident angst among team members — at least on defense — about losing one coach: Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Freshman safety Jarvis Wilson was walking by the media after Sunday night’s meeting when, unsolicited, he yelled out: “If the media wants to know anything tell them keep Pruitt.”

You know, by all measures as an Auburn fan I should be "giddy" that UGA fired Richt, or LSU has a Tommy Tubervillish dumpster fire smoldering. I am not. Long gone are the days of Frank Beamer doing 29 years at a school.
I was traveling and listening to the tOSU-Michigan game on radio. They had 3 guys doing the game and commentary. One of them was Joe Schad. He harped for 3 and a half hours how it was a national travesty that tOSU was going to be left out of the playoffs and how desperately we have to have an 8 game playoff to "save college Football" from itself. He never realized that this disaster the media has created is the reason college football has turned into what it has.

Firing Richt has been really good for the message board. Lots of activity. You got this right. Below is a comment today from Senator Blutarsky who runs the Georgia Blog Site, Get the Picture. GTP is the only Georgia site that I touch at all because it generally has the most reasonable and rational fans and even has fans from rival schools. But yesterday emotions were running a bit high: 47,402 I doubt anybody will be shocked to learn that yesterday shattered the record for number of site hits. (The prior top was a little over 34000.) I posted a lot because I thought everyone needed the opportunity to have their chance to vent, regardless of how his or her feelings might be about Richt’s departure. Me, too, for that matter. GTP saw a record number of comments yesterday, so a lot of you took me up on my offer. Emotions are running high, obviously. I let a lot of behavior go yesterday because I recognize that some folks need to get things out of their system before moving on. But it’s time to tone things down. I would ask that you all remember my request from the beginning of the month and respect that. Respect the online community that GTP offers. Let’s stop insulting and threatening each other. Let’s quit with the smart ass remarks about what motivates Mark Richt from people who’ve never known the man. Let’s find a way to differentiate between criticism of Will Muschamp’s public behavior and unflattering characterizations of what kind of human being he is. I’d like to think we’re better than that, even in tumultuous times. I’m not going to shut down the comments section, but I’m inching ever closer to commenter registration. And some of you won’t be allowed back if that’s the decision I make. For those of you who bravely state you’ll follow the blog even if you can’t comment, I appreciate the loyalty, but yesterday gives the lie to not caring about expressing yourself here. Nor do I want to run you off from the comments section. But I will. So next time, before you hit that send key, look at what you’ve typed. Don’t ask yourself whether it might bother you to read that after you’ve posted it. Ask yourself whether it might bother me. We’re all Dawg fans here. Regardless of your feelings about Richt and the program’s future, don’t lose sight of that in your anger and frustration. Thanks.

I am not and havent been on the Muschamp wagon but that was one rant I actually liked that he had. Either Carl Lawson was going to get flagged and possibly ejected or Muschamp was going to handle it. It was refreshing to see a coach at Auburn have their players back. That rant had NOTHING to do with the "late hit out of bounds per se, it was about the blatant and gross holding of Carl Lawson all game long. On that play not only was Lawson held, he was then tackled from behind by an Alabama lineman after he broke loose from the hold.
