Here is something to think about that people are not thinking about. Since 2000 Auburn has hired 5 Head coaches. Since 2000 Nick Sabans replacement will be Alabama's 6th head coach. Saban had absolute control and kept boosters in-line. Boosters will now be running amock at Alabama wanting their "influence" and just because you havent seen them for 17 years dont mean they are not there. 1.No one is going to want to follow Nick Saban at Alabama. 2.People with $$$ for NIL are going to want influence at Alabama they havent had in 17 years 3.New and bandwagon Alabama fans are in for a ride they havent experienced before. All fantastic points and why this process could take longer than most think.

Sounds like Norvel is out of the running too. FSU President indicated he is signing an extension today. I think we are seeing some...thanks but no thanks type stuff. As others have said, following a Giant is seldom a good thing.

Washington's Kalen DeBoer, who guided the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the CFP National Championship Game this past season, is negotiating a contract to replace Alabama's Nick Saban, sources told ESPN on Friday.
If a deal gets done, DeBoer, 49, would inherit one of the most coveted jobs in college football--and one of the most difficult in replacing Saban, whose teams won nine SEC titles and six national championships in his 17 seasons at the school. Saban, who had a 206-29 record at Alabama, retired on Wednesday.
Washington athletics director Troy Dannen has made an aggressive pitch to keep DeBoer, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel, with a new contract that would make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the FBS and more than double his current annual salary of $4.2 million.

DeBoer would owe Washington a $12 million buyout if he leaves. He signed a two-year contract extension through the 2028 season in November
DeBoer had emerged as the Crimson Tide's top target before three other possible candidates, Oregon's Dan Lanning, Florida State's Mike Norvell and Texas' Steve Sarkisian, withdrew from the search and affirmed their commitments to their current schools over the past two days.

Washington hired DeBoer to resurrect its program after the Huskies went 4-8 in coach Jimmy Lake's second season in 2021. With Indiana transfer Michael Penix Jr. orchestrating Washington's high-flying offense, the Huskies more than doubled their victory total during an 11-2 campaign in 2022.
This past season, Washington went 12-0 during the regular season and defeated rival Oregon for a second time, 34-31 in the Pac-12 championship game, to reach the CFP for the second time in school history. The Huskies beat Texas 37-31 in a CFP semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day.
Washington lost to No. 1 Michigan 34-13 in the CFP National Championship presented by AT&T.
DeBoer's hiring at Alabama would be the apex of a meteoric rise in coaching over the past few seasons for the South Dakota native. A record-setting receiver at the University of Sioux Falls, an NAIA program in his home state, DeBoer became head coach of his alma mater in 2005. Over the next five seasons, his teams went 67-3 and won three NAIA national championships in 2006, 2008 and 2009. The Cougars went 17-2 in the NAIA playoffs during DeBoer's tenure.
After working as an offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State and Indiana, DeBoer replaced Jeff Tedford as Frenso State's coach in 2020. The Bulldogs went 3-3 in the COVID-19-delayed season in 2020, then improved to 9-3 in his second season, which included an upset wins over nationally ranked UCLA and San Diego State.

Lose 2 games with that schedule would hardly be bad. But how would it go over in T Town?

I think Saban picked the perfect time to get out. With the direction College Football has taken it's a smart move.

Are you Wolfe's alter ego? nope... just pissed I well understand that. I remember the 1980's at Georgia Tech, when the program was starting to recover from the final Pepper Rodgers years, had winning records, and was beating Georgia with acceptable frequency. Then Alabama absconded with Coach Bill Curry. Two years later, and Curry was having bricks thrown through his living room window and death threats dropped into his mailbox. (Imagine if there had been a strong internet back then!) Sometimes money isn't enough to compensate for psychopathic fans, but DeBoer will have to find out. Note: I am not saying this about Alabama grads and the majority of their fans, but really Bama, you have some folks out there who would make Hamas nervous to be around.

Not forgiving those Bama fans, but that whole deal was ill conceived by all parties. Steve Sloan, a great Bama QB was the new AD. He, more than anyone should have known that Bama and Tech despised each other. Curry played for Dodd and Bama had been the reason Tech left the SEC. At least DeBoer won't be in that boat.

Joe Pompliano @joepompliano · Follow Jimmy Sexton put on a masterclass this week. 1. His client (Nick Saban) retires 2. He uses the Alabama job as leverage to get raises for his other clients (Dan Lanning, Mike Norvell & Steve Sarkisian) 3. He then places another client (Kalen DeBoer) at Alabama. Textbook stuff.

😔
It was a fun ride. I fully expected him to coach at least 3 more years. I think the shitscape that CFB has become is the reason he decided to now, and I can't blame him. He's accomplished more than enough.
I just hate that DeBoer took our HC away from us at South. That's strike one, bruh!
