I understand they are calling for a monsoon tomorrow. If this goes to a game 7 and tomorrow night's game is delayed, I guess Charlie won't have to go with Cole Hammels. That would allow Lee to go 3 times in the series (CC too). But would have the advantage of going with just 3 starters have been for the Yanks? Nothing (and might have cost them since Burnett struggled on short rest, and Pettite is yet to be seen). Interesting (sorry still first guessing...)

Now that was a National Anthem

I missed it. I am kind of old fashioned on these things. I prefer the National Anthem sung one way...the way it was intended and really get upset when it is screwed with.
I didn't see or hear it tonight...for some reason I thought the game started around 820 PM EST.

Well, if you did not like the Whitney Houston rendition, you might not like this one. I thought Mary J Blige(?) brought it, tonight. Lot's of passion.

Actually I did love the Whitney Houston rendition. Maybe I overstated my conservatism.

So I blab about how good Johhny Damon's at bats have been, then Pedro makes him look silly.

Well, at least Howard didn't strike out again. That is progress....but getting a ball past Tex ain't easy.

I can see some runs scored in this game...
Something like 7-6 or 6-5 or something along those lines.

Expect a short leash on Pedro here...
He doesn't have great stuff tonight, and if he begins to struggle you can't wait for him to figure it out. You have to go to Ja Happ and then attempt to figure something out for Game 7 (you gotta get there first).

Matsui is going to get Pedros changeup here on the full count...

That was a heck of an AB by Matsui--then he jacked a monster HR.

BTB is once again a visionary. I'm not sure it was a changeup, but you called another shot.

That was a heck of an AB by Matsui--then he jacked a monster HR. Against Pedro's second best pitch tonight the fastball. That is a spot where he has to trust that he can throw the change (much more movement) for a strike. 8 pitch AB and not a single breaking ball and I think I remember 1 changeup maybe. Pedro's fastball isn't even hard tonight...

Yeah, who does BTB think he is? The Bambino. ;D

Yeah, who does BTB think he is? The Bambino. ;D Pedro just struck out Posada on an 80 MPH pitch. That has to be a changeup (the fastball has been 84-87). Not a huge difference, but even though he left that changeup up, it had enough movement and deception to cause a swing and miss...

Not a good start to the evening. 2 runs ain't gonna win it. Pettite doesn't have his stuff tonight either. He has been reluctant to throw the cut fastball (his out pitch to righties). If he can't throw that and break bats like he did the other night he is going to get hit (if the lefties get into gear here...). Pedro just threw a pitch at 88. If he can get about 10 MPH difference on the changeup and fastball he can certainly be effective.

I agree, however, I was hoping the Phils would jump out on top and make the Yanks press a bit at the plate and chase Pedro around the strike zone.

Just missed going out. Damn. Yep turned it into a triple with 1 out (a sac fly works now). How tough of an out has Ruiz been? Hitting every mistake hard. Going to third got them a run thanks to J-Rolls flyout to right.

Well they got one back. I can handle that. Let's see if Pedro settles down a bit. He seems to be getting stronger (gaining velocity). But he has to continue to locate, and cannot be afraid to throw that changeup in fastball counts. If he can't his fastball is going to get hit around the yard. Oh and I disagree with McCarver. People don't call those cheap runs. Those are called produced runs. If Ruiz doesn't hustle to third there it doesn't score a run. Not cheap in my opinion (bad word choice there). They do mean the same thing too...like half-swing, full strike...

Outstanding location on the fastball by Pedro (at the eyes) to strike out Gardner. He is a guy you have to keep off the bases...
Pedro might be settling in. Throwing a little harder, and less reluctant to stay completely away from hitters (can't be too fine).

I agree with BTB. Nothing at all cheap about that run. Good baseball.

McCarver is really tough to listen to, I have to turn the volume down from time to time.
