Yep, I agree with BTB on all accounts. Pedro does seem to be getting stronger, but unfortunately is still laboring and throwing a bunch of pitches. Might be a short lived night b/c of that. If it is the, lineup needs to get some runs fast to have a padded lead for the bullpen or it could get ugly.

BD and pitt have it right here.
I would consider a 316 foot flyball down the right field line a cheaper run (even though cheap is the wrong term). Something to be said for a hard hit ball, and taking an extra base from a misplayed ball, and a solid flyball to score the run (great situation hitting by the way).
Greatest story about McCarver involve Bob Gibson. When he would go out there and want to talk it over...and Gibson would say something like 'you don't know how to pitch, get back there and catch what I want to throw'. ;D

Yep Toph. You can't walk these Yankees hitters...they are too good.
Although throwing it harder than he was at the beginning he is still not locating quite well enough (especially with that kind of stuff).
Happ has to be the guy that comes in IMO...

Fuck. Pedro just doesn't have any command right now. Not a good time to have to put it over the plate to Arod.

Yikes....Pedro did not need that. One mistake and it is over for sure.

Yikes....Pedro did not need that. One mistake and it is over for sure. Yep this is a scary spot... He is going to have to keep the ball down and away. A miss here with his mediocre stuff is going to get pounded.

That pitch was a bit of hanger and A-Rod missed it...
Got to be that changeup low and away again...if not I am scared for Pedro...

McCarver has to know he can't throw him a fastball here...
Did you see that changeup on the outside corner? Had him looking.

After an outstanding pitch to A-Rod, Pedro makes a big mistake. On 0-2 you either get it above the letters, or in the dirt. Can't get beat there...damn what a mistake (cost him 2 more runs).
I suppose I was the only one jumping off my couch to take Pedro out against Matsui (Happ is getting loose, and HAS to be in the game there).

This is not good. Matsui has owned Martinez this series.

This is not good. Matsui has owned Martinez this series. Yep. Game 6 is not a time to let someone 'work it out'. It is an elimination game. Don't save anything for Game 7. It is meaningless if you can't get there. Attempt to get there, and do what I think can work against the Yanks (a pitcher going just a few innings). The Yanks are good their second and third time around, and giving them all just one look at a pitcher could make them uncomfortable in the pressure of a Game 7... But what do I know (I know you have to put Happ in...).

Matsui comes up big again. Phils are going to need their big bats to produce if they are gonna hang in there tonight.

Damon got hurt running the bases. That is big, but Hairston is such a good ballplayer that people don't realize it.
Finally someone figured out how to pitch Utley. You can't beat him inside right now. The changeup that he struck out on was an outstanding pitch.

Unless the Phils can get some offense going, I don't think it will matter that Damon is out. Surely won't miss his lack of arm in the field.

Furthermore, the Phils need to jump on Pettite's first fastball like they did with Burnett. Keep him from gettin to his breaking balls.

His fastball like Pedro's is not going to beat MLB hitters tonight. Changing speeds and proper location (allowing the hitters to get themselves out) however, does work. The Phils need Ibanez big time here. After falling behind 1-0 I think Pettite is going to throw a hittable fastball here...

Wow that was an ugly swing...
I think you have to let a 2-0 breaking ball go by...and hit his fastball...

Feliz is a great fastball hitter...and he cannot swing at a breaking ball until he has two strikes...

I'll take the walk, but the problem the Phils have had in a couple of these games is being too patient and taking hittable fastballs and chasing bad breaking balls. Not a good recipe.

Feliz can hit a fastball on the inner half...and that is what he has to look for until he has 2 strikes! And Pettite is not getting squeezed...when you walk guys it is natural for the strike zone to get slightly smaller...

WTF is Feliz looking at? Jesus Christ what more do you want? Yep. He had two fastballs in that AB and let them both go (his strength). Then he grounded out on a breaking ball that is probably ball 4... bad AB there.

Take the first strike, but that second strike may have been on the outer part of the plate (however looked middle), but with no movement. Very hittable. Instead he doesn't get a solid pitch to hit with the full count.

Pedros changeup is still good...and he is not using it enough in my opinion... I agree. It would certainly keep him going tonight if he would. That is how he struck out Swisher. He showed the changeup (for a strikes once or twice). Then the fastball that he threw (90 MPH his best of the night) looked significantly faster. Pitchers can be effective with a fastball (even if not overpowering) and a good changeup in the right location. The Phils need to score this inning just to break Andy's momentum and confidence. I think they will score too... he is starting to complain about the zone (because he was constantly missing spots last inning). He did miss int he right spots though, out of the strike zone...Phils get at least one here and make the game more 'tense'.
