Very good Presser. Now get to work. I missed it. Did he bark? Bring his own coke bottle to answer questions for the press?

I have it on good authority that Smart said he likes driving trucks and that AU sucks.

Glenn Schumann joins UGA staff from Bama. He was a defensive analyst. No clue about what he did in Tuscaloosa. Any thoughts? His right hand man, looks like you may get our strenght coach too

This is one of the few things Pruitt did that bothered me. Small, quick LB's struggled to get off 2nd level blocks from OL all year.

And frankly, we did a great job of stopping the run up the middle. One of the best in the nation. But we could not get containment time and time again despite the smaller, faster guys. Joshua Dobbs was probably the best example but so was Harris. Even the Georgia Southern backs who were fast got to the perimeter time and time again. But I like what the guys in the middle did all year. Trent Thompson is a beast.

Learned a couple of things today. Thomas Brown is being retained. In fact he went on recruiting visit today with Kirby. Second, Smart intends on basically keeping the Power I/Pro Set offense, which has been a Georgia standard. That should be a bit of good news for Mr. Eason. Next hires will be the OC/DC as Kirby wants to give each the ability to bring their own guys in.
Friday's Banquet is a separate event from the Recruiting night. Jacob Eason and a bunch of commits and non commits will be at the recruiting function. Mark Richt MIGHT be at the team banquet...that is still unsure, but UGA has invited him.

Right needs to make a clean break. I'm not saying he shouldn't love and respect UGA, but this is like a breakup... Need to give it time and space. Him showing up won't do anyone any good, especially the kids.

More and more it looks like Georgia will stick to its traditional Pro Set/Power I offense. I am sure there will be some changes, but until this past year the offense has served them very well. Now, need some more depth at running back, a bunch of wideouts and someone who can get them the ball.
Jeff Sentell, AJC
“I’ll be back.”
That’s what UGA running backs coach Thomas Brown shared this week with a parent of a top recruit. Brown said he would definitely be back next year and that’s a plus for continuity at running back.
That keeps UGA in good graces with 4-star commitment Elijah Holyfield for starters. It also means Brown’s relationship with 4-star de-commitment Devwah Whaley is intact to try and bring him back to UGA. It keeps UGA in a great spot with mega-recruits like 5-star junior Anthony McFarland and 5-star sophomore Zamir White. Both of those elite athletes had UGA on their mind leader before Mark Richt was fired.
In short, Brown’s return means UGA will continue to keep the running back room stocked with Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley, Elijah Holyfield, Keith Marshall, Sony Michel and Knowshon Moreno types. Shon Simmons, the father of priority UGA receiver target Tyler Simmons, also gave a glimpse of what the offense will be like. He got a pretty good synopsis when the subject of what Smart is looking for at offensive coordinator came up.
“From what I was told by Thomas (Brown), Kirby is looking for someone who is going to be a traditional Georgia guy,” Simmons said. “Keeping up with the same standards that Georgia has always ran with a pro-style offense. They really think that’s the recruiting tool to keep kids coming to Georgia and to continue to get kids to the next level. They are looking for someone with the same philosophy Georgia has always had and not moving to the spread. They are going to be keeping to the same pro-style offense.”
That sounds like the program recruits like to call “Running Back University” is in good hands. “RBU” will be big at UGA for Smart, too.

ATHENS — One potential candidate to be Georgia’s offensive coordinator can be scratched. And so can one potential destination for Jeremy Pruitt.
Pruitt, who spent the past two years as Georgia’s defensive coordinator, will not interview at Michigan after all, per a report from 247Sports’s Josh Newberg, who said Pruitt “is no longer considering the job, because of family ties in the South.”
The idea of Pruitt at Michigan was always an odd fit, as Pruitt has never worked outside of the deep South. And his fiery personality would have made for an interesting pairing with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.
There is still a defensive coordinator opening at Alabama, Pruitt’s alma mater, created by the hiring of Kirby Smart at Georgia. There has appeared no movement in the past few days towards Pruitt returning to Georgia.
Smart, meanwhile, still has to find an offensive coordinator. One name that had been mentioned was Chip Lindsey, who held that job at Southern Miss. But he is accepting the offensive coordinator job at Arizona State, per several reports.
The only known hires thus far to Smart’s staff are Glenn Schumann, who had been an Alabama player development coordinator and will now assume some role on Georgia’s defensive staff, and Thomas Brown, expected to stay on as Georgia’s running backs coach.
Georgia is hosting several recruits this weekend, including five-star quarterback Jacob Eason. Smart may want to be able to tell them with certainty by then who their offensive coordinator would be.
Bryan McClendon, the receivers coach and interim coach for Georgia’s bowl game, was in Jacksonville on Thursday for a press conference with Penn State head coach James Franklin. While the initial feeling was McClendon was also likely to be retained by Smart, that has yet to officially happen, and someone familiar with the situation said McClendon does have an offer to join Mark Richt in Miami in some capacity.

Dawg Nation getting more than restless. Two commits are now going to follow Pruit to Tuscaloosa. If he does not close the deal with Eason, this will be an aborted take off. I did not expect him to keep Pruitt but I would think that it is imperative that he name an OC and DC before he heads back to Bama on Tuesday.
I wonder if Pruitt is going to coach in the Gator Bowl? I can't believe I actually bought tickets to that game.

ATHENS — Mark Richt will definitely attend the UGA Senior Gala Saturday night at the Classic Center. In fact, he had already arrived in town in the Classic City on Friday. And as previously reported, he won’t be seeing any of the Bulldogs’ recruits during his visit.
While Richt is attending the annual end-of-season, black-tie affair as the guest of honor downtown at 7 p.m., quarterback Jacob Eason and Georgia’s other recruits who are in town for an official visit will be hobnobbing with new Georgia coach Kirby Smart and other coaches at a separate event at Sanford Stadium.
Richt was fired as the Bulldogs’ head coach on Nov. 29. He accepted the head coaching job at Miami, his alma mater, on Wednesday. Smart, Alabama’s defensive coordinator for the last nine years, was introduced as Georgia’s new coach this past Monday.
Richt was invited by Georgia’s senior class to attend the yearly banquet. The main purpose to name team captains and most valuable players, etc., while also honoring the seniors and reflecting on the regular season. Normally, recruits also attend the event , which has become one of the most important for Georgia recruiting over the years. But because Richt was going to be attending and now represents another school, UGA officials decided to exclude the prospective student-athletes from this year’s festivities.
Meanwhile, Richt tweeted on Thursday about the Hurricanes hosting several top-level recruits for official visits this weekend.

Will Muschamp has a couple of spots left to fill on his coaching staff at South Carolina, and he reportedly could raid a rival to do so.
Muschamp is targeting UGA interim coach Bryan McClendon and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker to join the Gamecocks staff as wide receivers and defensive line coaches, respectively, according to a report from Tony Morrell of 247sports.
Neither coach has been confirmed as someone who new UGA coach Kirby Smart will retain for 2016. McClendon is an ace recruiter, and Rocker has loads of SEC coaching experience and connections throughout the South.
UGA plays Penn State in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Jan. 2.

OK Georgia fans...and others who mocked me about my concerns for the Gator Bowl game. Who exactly is going to be coaching this football team when they play in this bowl game? Kirby Smart...obviously not Mark Richt....count me out Jeremy Pruitt...not on your life Shotty....really? Bryan McClendan? will Will will it? Tracy Rocker? Ditto
Maybe UGA can get Barry Alvarez to do it since his coach is staying for the bowl...at least so far.
Hey, what about McWeasel? He is a genius so he might just do great.

I actually don't think it a mistake on Kirby's part. He has an obligation to those players he recruited at Bama. My issue is with the utterly incompetent Georgia Athletic Department. They clearly have no plan. Maybe this Muschamp thing doesn't happen and McClendon will coach the game. But right now players have been asked what is going on and they have not heard from a single coach. None. It is a cluster.
